The Area
Talland Bay lies between Looe and Polperro and is one of the most memorable and secluded coves along the coastline of South Cornwall. It has three small beaches flanked by a rocky foreshore and a beautiful undeveloped coastline. This idyllic bay is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, forms part of the Heritage Coast Cornwall, and was once renowned for smuggling.
The quiet hamlet of Talland consists of a scattering of houses, cottages and an ancient church, overlooking the bay , well away from the busy tourist areas further to the north and west. The Talland Bay Hotel has recently been refurbished and has an excellent restaurant and is an ideal place to stay overnight if you come to visit us.
The Bay community, set on a secluded hillside with direct access to the shore, is a haven of tranquillity, so rarely found in such an accessible location. It is a perfect location for walking, fishing and cycling or just relaxing and enjoying the views.
The Southwest Coastal Path gives wonderful cliff-top walks east to the fishing port of Looe or west to the picture-postcard village of Polperro, one of the prettiest harbours in Cornwall. Both Looe and Polperro have many excellent restaurants and cosy pubs with local seafood, of course, a speciality.
The area is home to stunning golf courses including Looe, Lostwithiel, the internationally renowned St. Mellion and the dramatic cliff-top courses of Carlyon Bay and Whitsand Bay.
Within a short drive lies Fowey with its picturesque harbour and sailing centre and further inland is the Eden project, whose futuristic “biomes” contain plants from around the world and which is the most visited tourist destination in Cornwall.
For those in search of a faster pace, a visit to Adrenalin Quarry, home of the longest zip wire in the UK (www.adrenalinquarry.co.uk), is a must, and nearby Kartworld (www.kartworldcornwall.co.uk) caters to budding racing drivers of all ages.
A 45 minute drive takes you to the north coast, where you can sample the delights of Rick Stein's Padstow or Jamie Oliver's 16 Restaurant and the Extreme surf academy at Watergate Bay. Meanwhile, Newquay is home to the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay Zoo and the vibrant surf scene at Fistral Beach.
