More and more British families are taking multigenerational holidays according to a recent Virgin Holidays study with 7 in 10 families taken a holiday with more than two generations.
With busier work and life schedules it’s harder to spend time together so people are opting for holidays with their parents and children as one unit.
It’s a win-win situation. You get the quality time all together as a family and you also have babysitters on tap so you can enjoy some much needed couple time. It can also be a great way to split the cost of a holiday.
We’ve seen many families coming to stay and celebrate milestone birthdays with us at The Bay, Talland. It’s such a joy to see the whole family enjoying time away together.
The research also says that there is a challenge finding activities that everyone enjoys while they are together. So we thought we’d pop a few ideas below.
According to Visit Cornwall, Cornwall was recently named as one of the UK’s top regions for multigenerational holidays. Luckily Cornwall has an abundance of activities suitable for all ages of the family.
Beautiful Beaches
Check out the beaches here in Talland. We have two main beaches here in The Bay and they are great for families as it is a sheltered cove, making it safe for swimming both at low and high tide.There are also lots of rock pools to discover at low tide – keeping the children occupied for hours while you relax on the beach! We highly recommend a bite to eat at the Talland Bay Café.
Cornwall is a treasure trove for wonderful beaches so you can always head out and explore other beaches in the region too.
Historic Castles
Cornwall is steeped in history. Who doesn’t love going to visit a castle?
Pendennis Castle was one of Henry VIII’s finest coastal fortresses. It has defended Cornwall since Tudor times and played a vital role in both World Wars. It offers amazing coastal views. Lots of fun to be had and don’t forget to check out the exhibitions.
Tingatel Castle has links to the legendary King Arthur. Enjoy a family day out here, explore the ruins and look at wonder of the bronze statue of the ancient king. Recently a footbridge has been installed connecting the main castle to the headland. This is definitely a must see.
The Eden Project
The World famous Eden Project is a fun and educational family day out. With over 1000 varieties of plants to explore in the biomes, you’ll discover how much we depend on them. There’s lots to see and learn about here for the whole family. They often have different events and exhibitions on throughout the year so check out their website for more info
National Trust
If you have a National Trust membership, you can put it to great use down here in Cornwall.
From Antony an 18th Century house, to Cotehele Mill, a working Victorian watermill next to the Morden Stream. You can also take a day out to do some Geocaching, Rockpooling & Surfing in and around Whitsand Bay and Polperro,
