Things to do in Cornwall this Autumn

Autumn is officially here and we wanted to give you a few reasons to come and visit us in the next couple of months.

Autumn and Winter are our quieter “shoulder months” but you’ll still be spoilt for choice for what to do while you are here.

Here’s our top 5 things to do in Cornwall this Autumn.

And if you do fancy coming to stay you can check out our availability here.

1) EXPLORE THE SOUTH WEST COAST PATH

The South West Coast Path is right on our doorstep (literally) making it the perfect spot for walking. Head off West to Polperro – 1 1/4 miles (allow 55 minutes each way) or East to Looe – approximately 3 miles (allow about 1 1/2 hours each way). The footpath offers fantastic views and is very well trodden. Find a pub along the way and take in the spectacular views.

2) VISIT A FOOD FESTIVAL

Cornwall has a number of food festivals in Autumn. Head to the Falmouth Oyster Festival from the 10-13th October and marks the start of Oyster dredging season.

If you prefer sweeter tastes then Healys Cyder Farm have their annual Apple week from the 19-27th just in time for half term. You’ll be able to blend and press your own apple juices and take part in the apple bobbing competition.

3) GO FORAGING

Keeping to the foodie theme why not try foraging? Take in a countryside walk and forage for food that are in season right now. Check out this blog post for some tips.

4) ENJOY QUIET BEACHES

Now that the peak summer months have past, enjoy some quiet beach walks. You’ll probably find most beaches empty this time of year and it’s a great way to blow away the cobwebs. The dog beach ban is also lifted in October so our four legged friends can also get in on the action.

5) GET ON THE WATER

It may be too chilly to go for a swim but that shouldn’t stop you from getting out on the water. Sit-on kayaks are available to rent (subject to weather conditions) from The Talland Beach Café on an hourly basis. The kayaks but suitable for an adult and a small child together and are a great way to spend a couple of hours bobbing around on the open sea soaking up the Cornish sunshine and sea air!
